More snow day action

Owen is as photogenic as ever, but I feel really not well. I left work early to sleep, but I'm still feeling kind of achy and fatigued. Hopefully I'll shake it off soon.

As a result, here are some new (to you) photos, but not terribly new photos in the sense of having been taken recently. Posted by Picasa

Owen on high!

I really like taking pictures of Owen from below him. It's nice training for when I'm in my sixties and Owen towers over me. Posted by Picasa

Snow day happy mom and baby

This was Owen and B on our exciting snow day lunch at Noodles & Co. Owen really wanted to get back to the chocolate milk. Posted by Picasa

Happy eyes!

He smiles with his eyes. Posted by Picasa

Fast Motion Owen

I've been experimenting with taking pictures of Owen with the flash off and the corresponding longer shutter speed. He's kind of a blur these days in a figurative sense anyway; I think these photos capture that nicely. Posted by Picasa

Happy boy!

This was Owen's first taste of chocolate milk. He was pretty impressed. Posted by Picasa

Owen's snow locomotion

This is how Owen prefers to move around in the snow -- on me. We walked a long way and saw snowplows and downed powerlines and snowplows driving over downed powerlines. Very exciting.

Then my back started hurting, so we came home to read to each other. Owen can read the onomatopoeia "Ow!" and I read the rest of the words in a number of books that we have which feature "Ow!" (they are: Sam the Chef (when Marco drops vegtables on his foot), Daisy the Doctor (when Alex falls off the swing onto someone's bicycle, and when Isacc has an ear infection), and others I'm now forgetting). If you have any books which you love that feature the word "Ow!" please let us know what they are, and we'll hurry to the library to pick them up. Posted by Picasa

Snow ball?

In an effort to curb Owen's negative reaction to the snow, I tried to make a snow ball (because he likes balls; surely he'd like this one!). The trouble is, Owen hates mittens and gloves, and, so, he hates snow balls. It was just too cold for him. As a result, he freaked out a little more. Posted by Picasa

Owen in the snow with Dad.

If you could see his face, you would see that he's freaking out. Posted by Picasa

Snow day!

We're snowed in here in Silver Spring. Pity it's a Sunday. Anyway, I dressed Owen up to explore the snow. As you'll see in the next few photos, it wasn't really a success. Posted by Picasa

Playdate with Lisa

Owen had a playdate last night, while Mom and Dad had a real date. Our very good friend Lisa came over to watch Owen and read on our couch while we had a great dinner at New Heights in Woodley Park.

Even though she's a looker, Lisa didn't want her picture taken; this was the best we could do to memorialize their evening. Posted by Picasa

Tickle Duck

Owen loves this genius book called "Tickle the Duck." Basically, he's supposed to tickle the duck in the book, and the adult reading the book to him is supposed to act as though he (or she) is the duck, being tickled. Very cool. Posted by Picasa

An exception . . .

As a rule I don't like to blog about work, and tonight isn't going to be an exception, but I do want to point out, for reasons that I'll leave unstated, that identity theft is a very real problem in the world. I was inspired to check my credit reports online at this site. It's remarkably easy and actually very informative. No one has been stealing my information (I think), but wow there's a lot of information available on me. I'm sure there's lots on you too.

Seriously though, you should check your credit report. It's free, and very informative.

Breakfast time with Owen

Owen, as it happens, really likes grape nuts. Bridgette, as it happens, really likes taking pictures of me when there are grape nuts in my mouth. Hence, this series.

And, hey, what do you think of the new suit? Posted by Picasa

Applesauce!

Dude likes applesauce. Posted by Picasa

Posing?

Owen was supposed to be posing with his friend Benji (foreground) and Benji's mom, Jen.

Owen kind of hates the camera sometimes.

Really, this was the best picture of the series. Posted by Picasa

Steeler moment

Even though there are allegations that Seattle was robbed, in the battle for Owen's football loyalty, only one team's fans came to play. Owen spent Superbowl Sunday in Steeler garb. I'm sure Owen's allegiance was the tipping point for Seattle.

That and the officiating.

And Pittsburgh scoring more points. Posted by Picasa

Storytime with Jonas

I was amazed how much Owen liked reading with Jonas. It helped, I'm sure, that they were reading Owen's new bus book from the library, but Owen was super patient and good with Jonas. Jonas wasn't too bad with Owen either. Posted by Picasa

Jonas!

Our law school friend Jonas came over to meet Owen. Here, Owen plays on the couch, while Jonas watches. I think he's a little freaked out that the authorities haven't taken Owen away yet. Posted by Picasa

Playdate!!

Owen had a playdate with Eli, his friend from daycare yesterday. It was really nice to see the two of them run all of Eli's house. It was also nice to get to know Eli's parents better than we'd been able to in our 30 second drop-off or pick-up conversations.

Here, Eli and Owen dance. Posted by Picasa

Happy guy

The weather has been so nice here lately. Here's Owen suiting up for some outdoor ball time. Posted by Picasa

Matador!

Owen is here practicing to be a matador! I think he's inspired by the idea of having a profession which shared a name with an indie record label (I will be so impressed if anyone emails me with the name of an artist who recorded on Matador, and even more impressed if you can name my favorite Matador artist, but that's a shameless plug for email).

It's hard to choose which is the right blanket though. Posted by Picasa

POUNDING!!!!

As in "pounding block," which is a new, all wood (for maximum noise) toy that Bridgette bought Owen. It's also "pounding" as in "pounding headache" which one can have after listening to Owen pound blocks for more than a few minutes. He gets very intent though, and really enjoys it, so we'll suffer the noise. Posted by Picasa

Calculator time

This is Owen and Aster, his daycare lady. We're big fans of Aster. Here, Owen is playing with a calculator, while Aster points out what the square root button does (she gave Owen a different explanation than she gave me. His involved a bunch of words I didn't understand, but she told me it just makes numbers with lots of decimals. Sometimes that's funny if they spell a dirty word upside down.) Posted by Picasa

Day care!

I brought the camera to Owen's daycare tonight. Here he is picking at his teeth! Sometimes they also read stories. Posted by Picasa

Out on the town

There's a lebanese place that has half-priced sandwhiches on Monday nights, so, wild folks that we are, we all went out for dinner the other night. Here's me and Owen outside the restaurant. I think he's dressed like a librarian. Posted by Picasa
