Supersized

Zoe has an enormous appetite.

Owen at the helm

Zoe prepares

Zoe prepares for the pirate cruise, near my butt.

Very serious

Owen pilots the ship. Though, actually, this was just a wheel nailed to a fence, but Owen took it very seriously. In his pirate outfit.

Pirate Zoe

Zoo trip

The kids never want to shell out the cash for a stroller. Why would they?

Mike!

It wasn't Zoe's birthday, but Mike played along.

Messy eater

Zoe is not terribly neat either.

It's hard

to accurately guess Zoe's shoe size.

Zoe and B at the Fourth of July

The Takoma Parade is our 4th of July routine. Here, Bridgette pretends to like bagpipe music for my benefit.

Two Stories About Owen, and a thought about Tim Russert

1. Owen and I were talking about numbers, and I asked him, "What is the biggest number you can think of?"
Owen said "A really really big two, one the size of our house."

2. The family was driving in the car last weekend and Owen threw a juice box at my head. I said, "Owen, you shouldn't throw juice boxes at your father."
Owen said, "You're not my father, you're my dad."
I said, "'Father' is another word for 'dad.'"
Owen said, "Oh, they're synonyms."

3. Isn't it odd, or fitting, or remarkable, or tragic, that Tim Russert died the Friday before Father's Day? His book has made him such modern a Father's Day figure; it was one of the best Father's Day gifts I've received.

A new friend

Owen plays with Khalil, his second friend (to the extent that his mom and Khalil's mom are first friends in any intelligible way).

The discussion

This was like "My Dinner with Andre" only with pirates instead of weird rituals performed in a forest in Eastern Europe.

Zoe recieves a cuddle

Grandpa Tony

Grandpa Tony modeled Owen's new pirate outfit. Also he wore a bib.

Mission Accomplished

Owen threw .00000001% of the world's rocks back into the ocean on this beach, then strode back to his father to ask him to move the train (in the background).

In Bellingham

B and Z sit on a log on a beach

in Olympia

We stopped for lunch in Olympia so the children could, repeatedly, throw stones in a lake. You just can't replicate that in Maryland.

Also we had lunch.

Owen tries to wistle, or something.

Owen in the distance

Owen can run pretty far away in a crowded market while his Dad messes around with a camera.

Zoe drinks water from an animal fountain

Very smug

Bridgette is smug about having such a nice room in Portland.

Room in portland

Our room in Portland came with its own T Rex. Very family friendly!

Unca Addy

The longest day of flying is worth it to Zoe if Uncle Andy (or, as Zoe says it, "Unca Addy") is at the end. She glommed on to Andy fast and hard. It was pretty cool to see.

Flying can be hard

Aren't you glad you weren't in the seat in front of us? (and, if you were, really, we're so sorry, it was just a really long day . . .)

Bad daddy

"Why don't you put the [expletive deleted] camera down and help me with your children?"

On the Road in the Denver Airport

The start of our vacation - the scenic Denver International Airport! Owen and Zoe could have seen the mountains in the distance, but that wouldn't have involved as much yelling.

B escorts the Andelmen out

She made sure they took all the triplets with them. It would be really, really bad if one were left behind.

Zoe rocked (at) the party

Owen and Jacob

Owen and Jacob sat next to the keg, filling (and emptying) their cups. Also, so you know, this was a keg of root beer. Thus, while giving Owen a long unsupervised "drink all you can" time was definitely bad parenting, it wasn't bad parenting like that (i.e., social services can stand down).

Like father?

Dad also knows how to use a keg. Candice looks on disapprovingly.

Why

Why don't you put my picture on the internet more often Daddy? Don't you know I have a public?

Open wide to the world

Zoe's arms open wide to the world, ready to experience its opportunities and adventures, ready to meet new and exciting challenges, and ready to play with all of Earth's creatures, from the frolicking squirrels in our yard to the loving adults who eagerly pull her into their arms to give her love. Her mouth, however, is closed, because it contains candy that she knows she's not allowed to eat.

Mother's Day

This is the flower arrangement that Owen made at school for mother's day.

Running (and screaming)

Zoe runs our porch and screams.

Porch Running

Owen enjoys running on our porch.

Freezer Bags

Bridgette is startled to have her love of freezer bags discovered.

The new camera is here!

Check out the pictures below! We've got a new camera and I think it's working really well. Let me know what you think!

6 pm

Is this what it's like when you get home?

A morning person.

Not a morning person

A naked Zoe rends a banana

You talkin' to me?

Dinner is crazy

It's nice to see in this picture just how much Zoe looks up to Owen.

Hey!

Zoe on the move!

Mommy!

A digger!

Owen's new hangout.

Sometimes she's just a little girl

Crazy!

This was right before she bit the head off a rat.

Sandbox!

Yes, our house is now a sandbox (thanks to how well sweatpants hold sand).

New Camera

In the (highly) unlikely even that we still have any remaining readers of this blog, I wanted to let you know that I just purchased a camera from Amazon, which should arrive May 8. This will replace the one stolen during our (now longer) recent breakin. It will document our upcoming party on the 17th and, hopefully, our upcoming trip to the Pacific Northwest. Look for new picture posts soon!
